SYMPTOMS
When you perform online backups of large information stores with the Database Scrubbing option enabled during backup, the backup process may time out.
CAUSE
Scrubbing the database during backup requires the metadata to be preread. On large databases, it may take longer than the default value of two minutes to preread the metadata. This causes the backup process to time out prematurely.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 SP2. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 4.
