APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q241686

SYMPTOMS

Outlook incorrectly parses one-off addresses containing EQUAL (=) signs. If an address similar to the following has been entered on the To line in Outlook

   User=Name@Domain.com

the address is parsed as:

     Display Name:  User=

     Address:       Name@Domain.Com

     Type:          SMTP

CAUSE

Outlook interprets the EQUAL sign as a delimeter which causes the one-off address parsing routine to truncate the string at the EQUAL sign.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Addresses containing EQUAL signs can still be used with Outlook if the one-off addresses are entered with the address type specified within the square brackets, using this format:

[SMTP:User=Name@Domain.Com]

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Outlook 2000. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
