SYMPTOMS

You add a user-defined keywords field to a task form, and when a person receives an assigned task, the following error message appears when they open the task request:

Can't open this item. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid.

You then cannot delete the item from their Inbox.

RESOLUTION

Do not use a user-defined keywords field on a task form that can potentially be assigned to someone.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have already experienced this problem and have an item in your Inbox that Outlook cannot delete, contact your Microsoft Exchange Server administrator or Exchange Server support personnel. Exchange Server includes a utility called the Information Store Viewer (Mdbvue32.exe) that can delete the item from the Inbox. This utility is available on the Exchange Server CD-ROM and should only be used by Exchange Server administrators or support personnel.
