SUMMARY

This article describes how to install or remove Microsoft Works 2000 or any of its core components.

The core components of Works 2000 consist of the following programs:

Program Executable file
Works 2000 Word Processor Wkswp.exe
Works Spreadsheet Wksss.exe
Works Database Wksdb.exe
Works Calendar Wkscal.exe



Additionally, Works 2000 Setup installs the following shared components:

To install or remove Works 2000 or any of its core components, use either of the following methods.

Add/Remove Programs Tool in Control Panel

To install or remove Works 2000 or any of its core components using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel:

  1. Quit Works 2000.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Proceed to step 5, unless Microsoft Works Suite 2000 is installed on your computer. In this case, click Microsoft Works 2000 in the list of installed programs in the Add/Remove dialog box, and then insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 2 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive without pressing and holding down the SHIFT key.
  5. Insert the Works 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Works 2000 Setup from starting automatically.
  6. On the Install/Uninstall tab in the Add/Remove Programs Properties window, click Install.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the Command line for installation program box, browse to drive where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
  9. Click Finish, and then click Next.
  10. Under Options, click one of the following three options:


    • Remove
    • Reinstall
    • Change installation
  1. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove, reinstall, or change installation for Works 2000 or any core components you want to install or remove.

Add/Remove Directly from the Works 2000 CD-ROM

To install or remove Works 2000 or any of its core components directly from the Works 2000 CD-ROM:

  1. Quit Works 2000.
  2. Insert the Works 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  4. In the Named box, type wks2000.msi.
  5. In the Look in box, click drive where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
  6. Click Find Now.
  7. In the list of found files, double-click the Wks2000.msi file to start Works 2000 Setup.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Under Options, click one of the following three options:


    • Remove
    • Reinstall
    • Change installation
  1. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove, reinstall, or change installation for Works 2000 or any core components you choose to install or remove.
