SYMPTOMS

After you install one of the products listed in the "Applies to" section on a Sony VAIO computer, the pointing device may behave unpredictably.

Additionally, on Microsoft Windows XP-based computers, the USB or Bluetooth mouse may not wake from "suspend" mode.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you have installed the product on a Sony VAIO PCG-505RS computer that has a VersaPad.

VersaPad and the IntelliPoint software use some of the same features, features that may conflict with each other.

This behavior may also occur if there is an issue in the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System, USB 2.0 and the NEC Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) card.

Microsoft IntelliPoint software may not function correctly if a different pointing device program is installed.

A low battery power level may cause mouse errors and irregular behavior.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, disable the VersaPad drivers. Contact your VersaPad manufacturer for more information about how to do this.

MORE INFORMATION

If you attach Microsoft IntelliMouse as a PS/2 device, the Microsoft IntelliMouse may not work correctly when it used with Sony notebooks. To gain full use of the IntelliMouse, use the IntelliMouse as a serial device. Use the PS/2-to-Serial Adapter that is included with the mouse.

Note The Bluetooth transceiver can only be connected to a USB port.

When an external PS/2 mouse is attached, the touchpad can be disabled. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Sony Folder.
  2. Click Sony Utilities, and then click Sony Notebook Setup.
  3. Click the Touchpad tab.
  4. Click the Disable Touchpad button.

Note You must use a PS/2 mouse to disable the touchpad. If you use a serial port mouse the touchpad does not disable.
