SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Works 2000, you may receive the following error message after your computer is automatically restarted:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you remove the Works 2000 installation compact disc from your CD-ROM drive after the installation process has restarted your computer but before the full installation of Works 2000 has been completed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinsert the Works 2000 installation compact disc into your CD-ROM drive. When you do so, AutoPlay detects the compact disc and then restarts the Works 2000 installation process.
NOTE: To avoid this behavior altogether, do not remove the compact disc from the CD-ROM drive when Works 2000 restarts your computer after the installation of Internet Explorer 5.0.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works 2000.
MORE INFORMATION
The Works 2000 installation process includes the installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. Immediately after Internet Explorer 5.0 is installed, the installation process restarts your computer. At this point, if you mistakenly assume that the Works 2000 installation process is complete and you remove the compact disc from your CD-ROM drive, when you log on to Microsoft Windows, you receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section.
