SYMPTOMS
When new Outlook items such as mail messages, appointments, contacts, journal entries, and tasks are created, their sensitivity level is always set to Private.
CAUSE
The default sensitivity level is set to Private.
RESOLUTION
Change the default sensitivity level to Normal.
MORE INFORMATION
Usually it is best to set the default sensitivity level to Normal and then apply other levels of sensitivity to specific items as needed.
To Set the Default Sensitivity Level
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Preferences tab, click E-mail Options, and then click Advanced E-mail Options.
- In the When sending a message section, click Normal, in the Set sensitivity list.
Selecting either Normal or Private affects all new Outlook items. Selecting Personal or Confidential affects only new mail messages.
To Override the Default Sensitivity Level for a Specific Item
Mail Messages
Open a new item and on the View menu, click Options. Under Message settings, click the desired setting in the Sensitivity list.
Appointments, Contacts, Journal Entries, and Tasks
Open a new item and click Private in the lower right-hand corner of the item.
