Article ID: 238324

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition

This article was previously published under Q238324

SYMPTOMS

After you install a retail version of Mcafee VirusScan 4.0 or later on a computer that has the version of of VirusScan included with Plus! 98 installed, the option to schedule virus scans using the Plus! 98 Maintenance Wizard is no longer available.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the upgrade process for Mcafee VirusScan must uninstall the Plus 98! version in order to install the newer (retail) version of the program.

MORE INFORMATION

During the upgrade process (whether by using the update utility included with the Plus! 98 version of VirusScan or by installing from a retail VirusScan CD-ROM), you receive the following prompt:

The Plus98! version of Virus Scan has been detected. This needs to be uninstalled before continuing. Would you like Network Associates to automatically uninstall now?

If you click Yes, the Plus! 98 version of VirusScan is uninstalled, which removes the option to scan for viruses from the Maintenance Wizard.
