SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
You have Secure Password Authentication turned on and your ISP's server does not require it.
RESOLUTION
Turn off Secure Password Authentication.

To Turn Off Secure Password Authentication
- Close Outlook.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mail, or Mail and Fax icon.
- In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click to select your Internet account, and then click Properties.
- On the Servers tab, click to clear the Log on using Secure Password Authentication check box.
- Click OK and then click Close.
- Start Outlook.
