SYMPTOMS

Outlook automatically selects the Remember Password check box. This can cause problems for customers who do not allow passwords to be cached to disk and may also cause a blank password to be cached to disk; this would lead to login failures.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

This fix is included with Internet Explorer version 5.5. Upgrading to IE 5.5 will also install the fix.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This is a problem in the Outlook Express Account Manager which is also used by Outlook IMO.

The hotfix can only be installed on a computer running Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0a. An error message displayeds if you attempt to install the hotfix on a computer running a version of Internet Explorer earlier than 5.0a.
