WD2000: Spelling and Grammar Checking Are Not Automatically Turned On with Some Right-to-Left Versions of Word

Note This article discusses complex scripts functionality. SYMPTOMS

Spelling and grammar checking are not automatically turned on when you upgrade from an earlier right-to-left version of Word to Word 2000.

Automatic spelling and grammar checking do not occur as you type.

CAUSE

During the upgrade process, the existing Normal.dot template is migrated; however, automatic spelling and grammar checking are turned off by default.

WORKAROUND

To correct this situation, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Set Language.
  2. Clear the Do not check spelling or grammar check box.
  3. Click the Default button.
  4. Click Yes in the dialog box that asks whether you want to change the default language.
