SUMMARY

This article describes how to disable the Picture Slide Show feature in Outlook Express.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

The Picture Slide Show is a feature included in Outlook Express version 4.x, but it is not (by default) included in Outlook Express version 5.0 or 5.01. After you upgrade Outlook Express version 4.x to 5.0 or 5.01, you cannot disable the Outlook Express Picture Slide Show feature through the user interface. Instead, this feature must be disabled in the registry. Note that you can also enable this feature in Outlook Express version 5.0 or 5.01 in the registry.

To disable the Picture Slide Show feature, use Registry Editor to view the following registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\identities number\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 where identities number is the appropriate identities number. Modify the "Automatically Inline Images" value by changing it to 0.

NOTE: The value "0" suppresses the automatic display of the picture. The value "1" displays all the pictures in the body of the e-mail message. The value "2" enables the Outlook Express Slide Show feature (which automatically displays the picture).

To enable the Outlook Express Picture Slide Show feature, create an additional DWORD value named "Automatic Slide Show Delay" with a value of "2" in the preceding registry key. Note that you must restart Outlook Express for this change to take effect.
