257824 OL2000: Differences Between Outlook and Outlook Express

SYMPTOMS

When you right-click a document file, point to Send To on the menu that appears, and then click Fax Recipient, a new e-mail message may be opened instead of the Microsoft Fax wizard.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Outlook Express has been set as your default e-mail client.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Programs tab.
  3. In the E-mail box, click either Windows Messaging or Microsoft Outlook.
  4. Click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior can occur if you install and configure Microsoft Windows Messaging and Microsoft Fax before you upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Outlook Express 5. Outlook Express does not have fax capabilities, so you must use a program such as Windows Messaging or Microsoft Outlook to send a fax.
