SYMPTOMS
If you print a message containing Latin text written in any of the fonts listed, the printout will be corrupted if Hewlett Packard (HP)5SI printer is used, and the operating system is Microsoft Windows 98, Arabic localized version. The fonts are:
- Andalus
- Arabic Transparent
- Arial
- Courier
- Fixedsys
- Garamond
- Marlett
- Monotype Sorts
- MS Dialog
- MS Dialog Light
- MS Sans Serif
- MS Serif
- MS SystemEx
- Simplified Arabic
- Small Fonts
- Symbol
- System
- Times New Roman
- Traditional Arabic
- Webdings
- Windows UI
- Wingdings
- Aharoni
CAUSE
Arabic Windows 98 installs an outdated HP5SI printer driver which does not support these fonts. When you install and run Outlook, any message containing these fonts will print as a corrupted text.
WORKAROUND
Install the latest printer driver for the HP5SI. On the Font tab in Printer Properties, click to select the "Print TrueType fonts as graphics" check box.
MORE INFORMATION
This is a problem unique to HP5SI driver which doesn't support glyph indices and substitutes a certain TrueType font for the built-in font so it prints the wrong glyphs.
