SYMPTOMS

When you play Links Extreme, sounds in the game may be choppy or distorted, or you may hear static in the background when sounds are played in the game.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:

  • The power management features on your computer are enabled.


  • A power management feature is activated while you are playing Links Extreme.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Power Management tool in Control Panel to disable power management features in Microsoft Windows, and disable power management features in the BIOS settings of your computer.

To disable the power management features in Microsoft Windows, use the appropriate method for your version of Windows.

Microsoft Windows 98

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Power Management.
  3. In the Turn Off Monitor box, click Never.
  4. In the Turn Off Hard Disks box, click Never.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close Control Panel.

Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2)

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Power.
  3. Click Off, or click to clear the Allow Windows to manage power use on this computer check box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close Control Panel.
  6. Restart the computer.

Microsoft Windows 95 (Retail)

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System.
  3. Click the Device Manager tab.
  4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to System Devices to expand the branch.
  5. In the System Devices branch, click Advanced Power Management Support, and then click Properties.
  6. On the Settings tab, click to clear the Enable Power Management Support check box.
  7. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  8. Close Control Panel
  9. Restart the computer.
