SUMMARY
If you install Outlook 2000 over Microsoft Office 97, without replacing Microsoft Word 97, you can use the earlier version of Word as your e-mail editor in Outlook.
NOTE: You cannot use Word 95 or earlier versions as your e-mail editor in Outlook.

When you use Word 97 to compose your e-mail messages, you receive all the benefits of using the powerful editing features in Word, such as background spell checking and AutoCorrect.
The following are some points to consider if you use Word 97 as your e-mail editor:
- The Send button may appear as a blank button.
- If HTML is the default format, the Word option is not available.
- If Word is the default editor, and HTML is the chosen format, you are prompted to upgrade to Word 2000, and the Word option is not available.
- If Word is the default editor, and Rich Text Format is the chosen format, the following occurs:
- The Stationery button turns into Templates.
- The Font and Signature buttons are not available.
- If Word is the default editor, and Plain Text is the chosen format, the following occurs:
- Stationery, Fonts, and Signature buttons are not available.
- Attachments are stripped from sent messages.
- When you Forward or Reply to a message received in Plain Text, you may receive the following error mesage: When you click OK, Outlook closes. If you restart Outlook, Outlook may hang or you may receive several other error messages, including memory errors. You must restart your computer to use Outlook again.
Using Word 2000 as your e-mail editor gains you the following functionality:

- Multiple signatures
- HTML Themes
- Improved performance
