SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook Express, the connection dialog box may appear even though the "Send and receive messages at startup" option is not selected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you are using the MSN, The Microsoft Network, custom version of Outlook Express. The MSN custom version of Outlook Express displays an Info Pane window that loads an MSN.com Web page that provides quick access to Search and other MSN services.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable the Info Pane Window:

  1. In Outlook Express, click Layout on the View menu
  2. Click to clear the Info Pane check box, and then click OK.
  3. Quit and restart Outlook Express.
