Links LS 99 Err Msg: Linksls99.exe Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Kernel32.dll

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Links Extreme or Links LS 1999 Edition, you may receive the following error message:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

When you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following:

Linksls99.exe caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:

  • A video adapter based on an S3 chipset is installed in your computer.


  • The video driver for your video adapter is outdated.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact your hardware manufacturer to inquire about how to obtain and install the latest video driver for your video adapter.

To determine if a video adapter based on an S3 chipset is installed in your computer:

  1. Insert the Links LS 1999 Edition Disc 1 into your CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the Links LS 99 CD-ROM to prevent Links LS 99 from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, and the click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK

    cd-rom:\Ats\S3id.exe

    where cd-rom is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
