SYMPTOMS

New messages may not appear in your Microsoft Hotmail Inbox or in your Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) account Inbox while you are viewing the message list, even though the unread message count increases. This behavior may occur even though the synchronization settings for the folder are set to synchronize all messages.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the message list is not being refreshed when a new message arrives.

RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, force a refresh of the folder by using any of the following methods:

  • On the Tools menu, click Synchronize.
  • Click Send and Receive on the toolbar.
  • Select a different folder, and then select the folder containing the new messages.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Outlook Express 5.5.
