SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade the driver for your monitor, you may receive the following warning message:

Update Driver Warning

The driver you have chosen was not written specifically for the selected hardware and may not work correctly. Installing this driver is not recommended. Are you sure you want to install this driver?

If you then click Yes, the Update Device Driver Wizard installs the driver.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you choose a driver from the list of monitor drivers supplied by Microsoft. Because Windows may not be able to correctly detect your monitor, Windows generates a warning message to inform you about the possible risks involved and to help you protect your hardware.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue does not occur if you install a manufacturer-provided driver.

WARNING: Manually upgrading a monitor driver with an incorrect driver may cause your monitor to become unusable, exhibit reduced functionality, and can damage your monitor.
