APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you migrate from Microsoft Windows 95 to Windows 2000, a Cheyenne Software ARCserve version 6.5-based server can view the Windows 95 agent when it browses the network by using Auto-Discovery, and the migrated computer can be added for backup or restore. However, the drives on the migrated computer cannot be viewed by the server. When you try to expand the directory tree for the migrated computer, you receive the following error message:

[ARCserve] Failed to login to Agent [OK]

Also, when you attempt to perform a backup by using the Client Agent, it does not work.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact Cheyenne Software to obtain the Microsoft Windows NT version of ARCserve Client Agent.

MORE INFORMATION

After the upgrade, the ARCserve 6.5-based server can view the client, but it cannot use any drives on the client computer. Also, after the upgrade the ARCserve Client Agent for Windows 95 may still have the following two items on the Start menu:

Client Agent Release Notes
Uninstall Windows 95 Client Agent

The link that starts the client does not remain, and the two remaining links appear by design.
