WINDOWS winnt

======================================================================

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • == Microsoft Internet Information Server version 5.0 ==

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to debug a Visual InterDev 6.0 project that uses Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.0 or when attempting to debug from Windows 2000, the following error message is encountered:

Unable to find server.

CAUSE

This error message is actually somewhat misleading. The problem is that Visual InterDev cannot automatically debug Webs on IIS 5.0. However, you can attach to the process of the Web server and manually debug the Web.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This bug was corrected in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 3. For more information about Visual Studio service packs, please see the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
