SYMPTOMS

The Outlook object model allows you to set the Organizer property of an AppointmentItem object, even though the Outlook Visual Basic Reference (Vbaoutl9.chm) and the Visual Basic object browser indicate that the property is read-only.

CAUSE

The property is actually read/write because Outlook sets this property.

RESOLUTION

Avoid using this property because it is not specifically designed to be set and Outlook may overwrite values that you set.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook sets the Organizer property when a meeting request is first sent. In accordance with Help and the object browser, Microsoft recommends that you do not change this property.
