SYMPTOMS

During Microsoft Office 97 Setup, you may receive an error message similar to one of the following:

Cannot read Off97inv.dll

Cannot read Windows\System\Mfcans32.DLL

drive:\Odbckey.inf Could not read from this file

Or, after Microsoft Office 97 Setup finishes, you receive an error message similar to the following:

Hlinkprx.dll could not be registered in the System Registry.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when Norton AntiVirus is running on the computer.

NOTE: This behavior may also occur when McAfee VirusScan is running on the computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, quit Norton AntiVirus, and then run Office 97 Setup. To do this, follow these steps:

Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition or Microsoft Windows 98

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
  2. In the Close Program dialog box that appears, click Navapw32.
  3. Click End Task.

Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows NT 4

  1. Right-click a blank area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager on the shortcut menu that appears.
  2. On the Applications tab, click Navapw32, and then click End Task.
  3. Quit Task Manager.

If you still receive the error message when you install Office 97, uninstall Norton AntiVirus, and then install Office 97. When Office 97 Setup is finished, reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
