SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Outlook Express, you may receive the following error message:

MSIMN Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module MSOEACCT.DLL.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, remove information from the registry for the e-mail and news accounts that you have set up on your computer:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type Regedt32, and then click OK.
  2. Double-click to expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder, expand the Software folder, and then expand the Microsoft folder.
  3. Expand the Internet Account Manager folder, expand the Accounts folder, and then click the 000000xx value, where xx is the unique number for each e-mail account on the computer.
  4. Write down the following values (Data column) for the following entries (Name column) for each subkey named 000000xx:

    For e-mail account data:

    • Account Name
    • POP3 Server
    • POP3 User Name
    • SMTP Display Name
    • SMTP Email Address
    • SMTP Server

    For news account data:

    • Account Name
    • NNTP Display Name
    • NNTP Email Address
    • NNTP Server
    The values you write down from these listings are the values that the Internet Connection Wizard requests when you set up your e-mail and news accounts again.
  5. For each subkey named 000000xx, on the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
  6. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart your computer.
  7. Start Outlook Express, and then recreate your news and e-mail account settings.
