ERROR MESSAGE

When you try to create a new custom label, the following error message may appear:

The margins, label size, and number across or down values produce a page that is larger than the label page size.

THINGS TO TRY

The label information you entered in the New Custom laser (or New Custom dot matrix) dialog box is incorrect for the page size you selected.

To correct this problem, enter the correct label size information for the custom label you are creating. To help you to correctly enter the custom label information, please refer to the following resources as well as the "More Information" section of this article.

NOTE: To view the New Custom laser or New Custom dot matrix dialog box, click Envelopes and Labels on the Tools menu. On the Labels tab, click Options and then click New Label.

To assist you in entering the correct settings when you create your new custom label, please refer to the following table for the descriptions of the values required to set up your custom label.

Label Property Description
Label height This is the distance from the top edge of the label to its bottom edge. It does not include the space between labels. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Label width This is the distance from the left edge of the label to its right edge. It does not include the space between columns of labels. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Number across This is the number of labels in a row on your sheet of labels. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Number down This is the number of rows on your sheet of labels. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Top margin This is the distance from the top edge of the label to the first line of type. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Side margin This is the left margin of the label; the distance from the left edge of the label to the text. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Vertical pitch This is the distance from the top of one label to the top of the next label. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Horizontal pitch This is the distance from the left edge of one label to the left edge of the label next to it. This box is unavailable if the Number across value is 1. If you enter a new value, press TAB or click elsewhere in the dialog box to update the Preview box.
Page size Select the page size of your label sheet.
