SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor and address a message, you may receive the following error when sending:

The messaging interface has returned an unknown error.

CAUSE

After composing the message but before sending it, you switched the account configuration to send the message using a different account. This error may occur more frequently with messages that have files attached.

RESOLUTION

Use Outlook as your e-mail editor to send the message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you intend to send a message using an account other than the default account, switch to the account before composing the message.
