This article was previously published under Q223653

SYMPTOMS

When you click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Mail Delivery tab, you may receive the following error message:

OUTLOOK executed an invalid instruction in module <unknown> at 0084:00000017.

CAUSE

This problem has been reported when your computer has too little available memory (at or below 512 KB).

RESOLUTION

Free more memory by quitting any unnecessary programs and checking that your Microsoft Windows virtual memory settings are correct. To check your virtual memory settings in Windows 95 or 98:

  1. Right-click My Computer on the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Performance tab, click Virtual Memory.
  3. In Virtual Memory, click Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings, and then click OK and OK.

Virtual memory is a combination of Random Access Memory (RAM) and the available swap file memory on your hard disk. If the available memory from these two is insufficient, you can encounter problems running programs.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem has been reported while using either the English or German versions of Windows 95 and 98 and Outlook.
