SYMPTOMS

After you save a Microsoft Word 2000 document as Word 6.0/95, when you try to apply a double-line border to a paragraph, the following message appears:

This feature is disabled because it is not compatible with Microsoft Word 6.0/95.

NOTE: This problem does not occur when you open a Word document created in Microsoft Word 6.0 for Windows or Microsoft Word for Windows 95. However, if you save the document in Word 2000 and retain the document as a Word 6.0/95 document, this problem occurs.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods appropriate for your situation to work around this problem:

Method 1: Apply Double-Line Border Before Saving As Word 6.0/95

Apply the double-line border before you save your Word document as Word 6.0/95, using the following steps:

  1. Select the text (paragraph) to which you want to apply the double-line border.
  2. On the Format menu, click Borders and Shading.
  3. On the Borders tab, click to select the double-line border in the Style list.
  4. Change the Apply to box to Paragraph.
  5. Click OK.
  6. On the File menu, click Save As.
  7. In the Save As dialog box, change the Save as type box to Word 6.0/95. In the File name box, type a name for your Word document and then click Save.

Method 2: Create a Macro to Apply the Double-Line Border

        With .Borders(wdBorderLeft)
            .LineStyle = wdLineStyleDouble
        End With

        With .Borders(wdBorderRight)
            .LineStyle = wdLineStyleDouble
        End With

        With .Borders(wdBorderTop)
            .LineStyle = wdLineStyleDouble
        End With

        With .Borders(wdBorderBottom)
            .LineStyle = wdLineStyleDouble
