SYMPTOMS

After manually removing and adding a new modem, the Fax tab lists the modem as "None."

CAUSE

The modem was not configured to work with Symantec Fax Starter Edition.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

There are two possible ways to correct this issue.

  • Configure the modem to work with Symantec Fax Starter Edition. This will always work.
  • Restart the computer and then start Outlook. This does not always work.

To Configure the Modem

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Fax tab, click Modem.
  3. Click to select the modem from the list, and click Properties.

The Fax Configuration Wizard starts. Follow the steps in the wizard, and when you are done restart Outlook.
