SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade from Microsoft Outlook Express to Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only (IMO) mode, if you click None when you are prompted to migrate settings from a previous e-mail program, the Windows Address Book (WAB) entries used in Outlook Express are not available to Outlook.

RESOLUTION

Use the Import and Export wizard to make the addresses available to Outlook.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To import addresses from the WAB:

  1. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
  2. In the Choose an action to perform list, click Import Internet Mail and Addresses, and then click Next.
  3. In the Select the Internet Mail application to import from list, click Outlook Express 4.x, 5, and then click Next.
  4. In the Options area, click the appropriate option for duplicates.
  5. Click Finish.

NOTE: Outlook places the addresses in the Outlook Contacts Folder.

To share entries in the WAB between Outlook Express and Outlook:

  1. Click the Start button, click Run, and in the Open box, type wab, and then click OK.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Ensure that the Share contact information among Microsoft Outlook and other applications. Address book data will be stored in the Microsoft Outlook Contact Store. option is selected, and then click OK.

NOTE: Any addresses you enter in either program before the sharing option is turned on are not available to the other program and must be imported.
