SYMPTOMS
If you set up a workstation running Windows 2000 Professional in a Small Business Server (SBS) 4.5 network, the SBS Fax client and the Modem Sharing client are not installed on the workstation.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Windows 2000 Professional has its own native fax software. When you attempt to install the SBS Fax client, the Windows 2000 Professional fax software is detected and Setup does not install the SBS Fax client.
The Modem Sharing client for Windows NT Workstation 4.0 is installed as a service in Network properties. It uses a Setup file written for Windows NT 4.0; this Setup file does not work on a computer running Windows 2000 Professional.
RESOLUTION
Updated Fax and Modem Sharing client software is now available to allow a Windows 2000 Professional-based computer to use these features on SBS 4.5.
