SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to print a publication with specified margin parameters, some of the text will be cut off.

CAUSE

Microsoft Publisher uses the default print driver to set up all publications. Each printer has its own driver specifications, which include the unprintable region. This unprintable region includes space for the rollers to take the paper through the printer and exit the other side.

RESOLUTION

You can determine the unprintable region of your printer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and click WordPad.
  2. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
  3. Set the Left margin text box to zero.
  4. Repeat the previous step for the Right, Top, and Bottom margins.
  5. Click OK. NOTE: The margins will automatically be reset to the minimum margin supported by the Windows printer driver.
  6. On the File menu, click Page Setup and note the new margin settings.

You can now return to you publication and set your layout guides based on these numbers.

NOTE: Publisher will round up if the number is in thousandths of an inch.
