Article ID: 215609

Article Last Modified on 9/25/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Excel 2000 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q215609

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a Windows Metafile (*.wmf) image as a background image on a worksheet, the image appears to be very large.

There are several possible drawbacks to this behavior:

  • The file size may increase substantially.
  • You may see degraded performance.
  • You may receive out of memory errors if your computer does not have sufficient resources to display the large image.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, open the image in an image editing program, such as Windows Paint, resize it, and then save it as a bitmap (*.bmp) image. You can then insert the bitmap image on the background.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
