Summary: MS SORT cannot sort a Relative file from an MS COBOL program into a Variable Sequential file. If you try to sort, MS SORT creates a Variable Sequential file with a length of 0 bytes. To work around this problem, sort the file from within an MS COBOL program. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information as it becomes available.
