SYMPTOMS
When you install Outlook on a Microsoft Windows NT computer, using a setup package created by the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW), and you use Newprof.exe to create a mail profile, the Microsoft Mail service is not installed even though you made all the correct settings in the CIW.
CAUSE
the Windows Installer sets the MSMail service provider to be "installed on first use." Newprof.exe cannot be installed on demand so, the installation of the MSMail service fails.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install the MSMail service provider locally on the user's computer. To do this, add the following line to the [Options] section of the Setup.ini file.
ADDLOCAL="OutlookMAPISFS,OutlookMAPISFS95"
If the line exists in the section, ensure it is not remarked out by removing the semicolon (;) from the beginning of the line.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
