Summary: Sequential and Line Sequential files have the same format in MS-DOS COBOL Version 2.x as they do in Version 1.x, except that the end-of-file in Version 2.x is indicated without terminating CTRL-Z characters. Files created under COBOL Version 1.00 may be used except when the OPEN EXTEND option is used. In this case, files should be generated or copied using an MS-DOS COBOL Version 2.00 program to produce the correct end-of-file.
