SYMPTOMS
If you press ENTER when you edit a page in page view, a blank line is inserted before the next line of text, which causes the text to look double-spaced.
CAUSE
When you press ENTER in FrontPage, FrontPage inserts a paragraph element represented in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) by thetag. When it is rendered by a Web browser, the paragraph is displayed with a line space before it. If your lines are short or you press ENTER when you reach the right margin instead of allowing the text to wrap to the next line, each line is formatted with the
tag, resulting in the extra line space between paragraphs.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, insert a normal line break () instead of a paragraph (
), using one of the following methods.
- On the Insert menu, click Break, and then click OK.
A normal line break, represented by a right-angle arrow in FrontPage, appears at the end of the line. The arrow does not appear when you open the page in a Web browser or in the page view of FrontPage if you click the Show All (Format Marks) button on the Standard toolbar to turn off the display of non-printing characters.

- Press SHIFT+ENTER.

- Click Style on the Format menu.
- Select All HTML Tags from the list, and select p in the list of styles.
- Click Modify.
- Click Format and select Paragraph.
- In the Spacing section, set the Before and After fields to 1.
