SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Outlook and attempt to import contact or calendar data from ACT! 3.x, the import is not successful, and although ACT! installed, you receive an error message stating that ACT! needs to be installed on your computer.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you need to upgrade to ACT! version 3.08.
RESOLUTION
Upgrading ACT!
NOTE: You must have version 3.0.7 installed prior to upgrading to version 3.08. The ACT! 3.0.8 Update Patch will only update ACT! 3.0.7 to 3.0.8. You must download and apply ACT307.EXE before applying the patch, 308_US32.EXE.
To upgrade ACT!, follow these steps:
- Download and install the necessary application patches to upgrade your copy of ACT! to version 3.08. The patches are available from the Symantec Web site:
- After you complete the updating process, open your ACT! database in ACT! 3.08 and then quit the program.
Converting ACT! Data in Outlook
To convert the ACT! 3.x data for use in Outlook, follow these steps:
- On the File menu in Outlook, click Import and Export to open the Import and Export Wizard.
- In the Choose an action to perform list, click Import from another program or file and then click Next.
- In the Select file type to import from list, click ACT! 3.x, 4.0 Contact Manager for Windows and then click Next. If you receive a message to install the Import/Export Engine, click Yes.
- In the File to import box, click Browse and locate your ACT! file. Then, click OK and Next.
- In The following actions will be performed list, select the ACT! elements you want to convert. Outlook will import these elements into the Contacts, Calendar and Tasks folders. Click Change Destination if you want to import to folders other than these default locations. Click Finish.
