SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to format a cell in Excel, the following error message may appear:
When you attempt to change any settings on the General tab of the Options dialog box, the following message may appear:
After you receive either of these error messages, Excel may redisplay the error message 4 to 5 times when you click OK.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You are running the Microsoft Active Accessibility Magnifier.
-and-
- You attempt to do one of the following:
- Format a cell on a worksheet.
- Format a cell on a worksheet.
-or-
- Change any settings on the General tab of the Options dialog box.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, close Magnifier. To do this, follow these steps:
- Close any error message that is currently displayed on the screen. You may need to click OK 4 to 5 times.
- On the Taskbar, click the Magnifier program.
- In the Magnifier dialog box, click Exit.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
