SYMPTOMS
When you try to uninstall Internet Explorer on a computer running Windows NT Server, Terminal Server edition through the Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel, you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Add/Remove Programs shortcut does not seem to properly switch Terminal Server to the install mode when trying to uninstall Internet Explorer, which was loaded with the original installation of Windows Terminal server.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run and then type cmd. At the command prompt, type change user /install and then minimize the command prompt window.
- Manually remove Internet Explorer. To do this, click the article link below, and then perform the steps in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

- After the installation has been removed, go back to the command prompt and type change user /execute.
