SUMMARY
This article explains how to turn off the most recently used (MRU) font list at the top of the Font drop-down list.

To turn off the font MRU list, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Use the Support9.dot Template
- Open the Support9.dot template.

- On the Macros toolbar, click Sample Macros and then click Registry Options.
NOTE: If the Macros toolbar does not appear when you start the Support9.dot template, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Macros. - On the Word 2000 Options tab, in the Option list, click to select NoFontMRUList.
- In the Setting box, type a 1 and then click Close.
NOTE: The default setting of the NoFontMRUList option in the Set Registry Options dialog box is 0. - On the File menu, click Close.
- On the File menu, click Exit. After Word is shut down, restart Word. The settings you changed will now take effect.
Method 2: Edit the Windows Registry
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
- Quit all Windows applications before editing the Windows registry.
- On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
- In the Registry Editor, open the following registry key:
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Options
- With the Options key selected, point to New on the Edit menu and then click String Value.
- Type NoFontMRUList and press ENTER.
- With NoFontMRUList selected, click Modify on the Edit menu.
- In the Value data box, type 1 and then click OK.
- On the Registry menu, click Exit. The Registry Editor will automatically save your changes.
