SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook Express, you may receive either of the following error messages:

Internet Explorer cannot find the file c:\progra~1\intern~1\signup\infopane.htm.

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://services.msn.com/infopane/default.asp. The site was not found.

When you close the error message, you can then use Outlook Express.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:

Method 1

  1. In Outlook Express, click Layout on the View menu.
  2. Click the Use Preview Pane check box to clear it.
  3. Click OK.

Method 2

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Delete the BodyBarPath key in the following registry key:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Identities\##### 

   Task number: 41718222
                

Method 3

Do not set Outlook Express to disconnect after checking e-mail.

  1. In Outlook Express, on the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Connection tab, and clear the Hang up after sending and receiving check box.
