Article ID: 192574

Article Last Modified on 1/23/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 98 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q192574

SYMPTOMS

When you are using Windows 95 with roaming profiles enabled, you may not be able to change the current color scheme.

CAUSE

The format in which the color scheme is stored in the registry is different in Windows 98 than it is in Windows 95. Windows 95 can read the Windows 98 color scheme information, but cannot change it.

MORE INFORMATION

If you select a color scheme when you are logged on to a Windows 98-based computer using a roaming profile stored on a server, and then log on to a Windows 95-based computer using the roaming profile, the color scheme is downloaded from the server, but cannot be changed. You can select a different color scheme, but the Apply button is unavailable, and clicking OK does not apply the change.
