SYMPTOMS
When you run the System Information tool in Windows 98, you may receive the following error message:
If you click Details, you may receive the following error message:
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, extract a new copy of the Msinfo32.exe file from your Windows 98 disks or CD-ROM. To use the System File Checker tool to extract a new Msinfo32.exe file from the Windows 98 CD-ROM, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type "sfc.exe" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Click "Extract one file from installation disk," type "msinfo32.exe" (without quotation marks) in the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" box, and then click Start.
- In the Restore From box, type the path to the Win98 folder on the Windows 98 CD-ROM.
- If necessary, type "<drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Msinfo" (without quotation marks) in the Save File In box (where <drive> is the drive letter of the drive containing the Windows 98 Program Files folder), and then click OK.
- Click OK, click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.
