SYMPTOMS
When you link to a cell, the value may unexpectedly return a value of zero (0).
-or-
If you use Paste Link (Paste Special dialog box) the array returned to the destination cells may look different than anticipated (display zero values).
CAUSE
You may experience these problems if the Horizontal alignment of the source cells is set to Center Across Selection.
In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, when you format a range of cells with the Center Across Selection option, the contents of one cell will be centered across multiple cells. In this format, although the data appears to be contained in several cells, the actual data can only be accessed from the original cell. For this reason, operations, such as those described in the "Symptoms" section will not retrieve data from the cells that appear filled.
WORKAROUND
To prevent these problems from occurring, copy only the first cell in the range of cells formatted with Center Across Selection.

This is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
