SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Project 4.0, you may receive the following error message:

The application "Microsoft Project" could not be opened because "MicrosoftMailLib-msmAddMessBccRecipient" could not be found.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when Microsoft Office 98 has been installed and the Microsoft Office 98 library file is located in the Extensions folder.

  1. On the Macintosh hard disk, open the System Folder.
  2. In the System Folder, open the Extensions folder, and then locate the library file named "Microsoft Office 98". Leave this folder open on the Desktop.
  3. Open the folder where the Microsoft Office 98 program files are installed. This folder is usually named Microsoft Office 98.
  4. Drag the Microsoft Office 98 library file from the Extensions folder to the Microsoft Office 98 programs folder.
  5. Close all open folders.
  6. Start Microsoft Project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the versions of Microsoft Project listed at the beginning of this article.
