SYMPTOMS
If you assign a shortcut key combination to a macro in Word and you then add the macro to a menu or toolbar, the shortcut key assignment will not appear on the menu or toolbar.
WORKAROUND
When you create a custom macro with an assigned shortcut key, follow these steps to place the macro and its shortcut key assignment on a menu:
- On the Tools menu, click Customize. Click the Toolbars tab, and under Toolbars, select Menu Bar.
NOTE: The actual menu bar will become inactive (grey) and a new activated menu bar will appear.
- Click the Commands tab.
- Under Commands, find your macro and drag it to a menu.
- Click Modify Selection. Click in the Name box and, if necessary, change the name of the macro. Following the name of the macro, type in the shortcut key assignment.
- Click Close.
To place the macro and its shortcut key assignment on a toolbar, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Customize. Click the Commands tab, and under Categories, select Macros.
- Under Commands, find your macro and drag it to a menu or toolbar.
- Click Modify Selection. Click in the Name box and, if necessary, change the name of the macro. Following the name of the macro, type in the shortcut key assignment.
- Click Close.
