To run the Microsoft Office 98 Updater, follow these steps:
- Double-click Microsoft Office 98 Updater.
- In the dialog box that displays the Readme file for the Microsoft Office 98 Updater, click Continue.
In the Microsoft Office 98 Updater dialog box, click Update.
The following 4 files will be updated on your hard disk drive.File Old Version New Version ---------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Office First Run 1.0 1.0.1 Visual Basic for Applications 8.0 or 8.1 8.2 Microsoft PowerPoint 8.0 (4927) 8.0 (5508) PP Translator 8-4 8.0 or 8.02 8.04
- Click Continue to the message that tells you the update was successful.
In the Microsoft Office First Run dialog box, click Install.
The following 3 files will be updated in your Extensions folder.File Old Version New Version ---------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Component Library 2.22 2.24 Microsoft OLE Library 2.22 2.24 Microsoft Structured Storage 2.22 2.24
NOTE: At this step, it may appear that 60 files are being updated. The first run installation process will copy over any of the 60 files that are displayed in the dialog box. However, only the 3 files that are listed are updated.

- Click Quit to the message that tells you the installation was successful.
- The files that were updated by the Microsoft Office 98 Updater are now in the Trash. To delete these files, click Empty Trash on the Special menu.
NOTE: The Updater creates a file called "MS Office 98 Updater Log", without quotation marks, on the root of your System hard disk drive. This file can be opened in any text editor and will list the items that were updated on your hard disk drive.
