SYMPTOMS

When you click Discover Windows 98 on the Welcome To Windows 98 screen to start Windows 98 Tour, you may receive the following error message:

The Windows 98 Tour ('Discover.exe') was not found. Please insert your Windows 98 CD or verify your network connection is still active. Windows 98 was installed from '<drive:>\<flat directory>'.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you copy the Win98 folder from the Windows 98 CD-ROM to your hard disk, and then install Windows 98 from the folder on your hard disk. The Setup source path specifies to retrieve files from the hard disk instead of the Windows 98 CD-ROM. If you do not copy the folders in the Win98 folder from the Windows 98 CD-ROM to your hard disk, this error message can occur. The Discover Windows 98 tour files are located in the Win98\Tour folder on the Windows 98 CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

Change the Windows 98 Setup source path to retrieve files from the Windows 98 CD-ROM. To do so, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

TITLE : How to Change the Setup Source Path in Windows

Method 2

Copy the Win98\Tour folder, including all folders in the Win98\Tour folder, from the Windows 98 CD-ROM to the folder from which you installed Windows.

For information about how to copy a folder, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type copying, double- click the "copying files, folders" topic, and then double-click the "To copy a file or folder" topic.
